I was so sad at hearing that Darryl has left us and although our meeting at Adelaide River was brief, he and Ange were welcoming and made my time there so memorable. You were a work colleague of Craigs for over 20 years & our concreter. More than that though you were a great mate & friend to Craig.

Your infectious attitude to life left everyone smiling – even if your ‘running on red cordial’ approach left them floundering in ‘your path’.

I am glad that Craig was able to put some music on ‘that stick’ for you so that you had a selection of music to listen to on your journey to Darwin. Sadly you will not be listening to it on the way home.

You loved your Ange immensely & I can hear her saying ‘oh Darryl’ as you bounced around keeping everyone happy & entertained. Your children & grandchildren were your world.

Ange, I only met both yourself and Strop the one time at my brothers house. I followed your trip all the way up to Darwin.
Shared a meal around the table, not Strop, he was busy making the other campers comfortable.
On your way out as I was saying goodbye/good night to you both, Strop placed his empty GREEN CAN in a pot plant and said to me, that’ll keep him busy, he won’t forget me in a hurry. Well STROP you surely were right about that, for Days and even weeks after you had left Carla and Steven are still finding empty GREEN CANS that you had placed strategically around their garden.
You will be surely missed by all. You travelled all the way to TENNANT CREEK with a STROPINATOR, a gift for Steven that you had built specifically for him, I can surely tell you that will be treasured. Ange, I am deeply sorry for your loss. 💜💜💜💜

Rest easy Strop 🍻🦌🦈 I sit here thinking about how much of a bloody incredible husband of 50 years you were to Ange, overcoming so many big hurdles and hard times, such a loving, devoted and hands on present father and grandfather you are and smile knowing you gave those you love more than your all. I’ll miss seeing the beautiful memories you created with the family, and laugh thinking about you attacking me with clippers on multiple occasions for cutting my own hair 🤭 ironically ended up hairdressing and I stopped that. I remember a boating trip to Mann’s Beach as a kid and being so terrified I insisted on staying on the jetty for the entire day with my sandwiches, but of course I didn’t and you made it so fun and entertaining catching a sea snake and I think Jase losing his hat which got me thinking that will be me overboard next, only to have you help me cast out and then reel in a fish 🥰 I was ok after that I think. Your voice booming into the backroom on our sleepovers, and the energy you put out in this universe was like no other.
I wish i had spent more time with you in recent years, but you leave a huge sadness in my heart.

Sadly we can’t be there to say goodbye to a legend. A few years back Strop dropped in to our place to grab some pipe for a project he was working on. He noticed a large tree had fallen, partially covering our driveway. He said “I’ll be back” He went home to grab his chainsaw and cleaned the tree up and stacked the wood for us
He was just that kind of man, so generous with his time and ready to help anyone

Strop, Stropper, Poppy Strop, The Stroppinator…

It is hard to fathom we won’t get to see you again; my heart is heavy knowing that I won’t ever be greeted by your giant cheeky smile, goofy laugh and be given a big hug. I think back now about how lucky I was to grow up and be included in your family; all the fun and crazy times, so many adventures, some of the hardest of times of our lives, but mostly the very best of times. So many good memories… fishing on the boat, floundering, camping trips, holidays, jukeboxes and terrible dance moves, and the endless stream of family events. I feel even luckier that Brad and my girls got to enjoy doing those things with you too. Thank you for welcoming them and loving them. The fishing…you taught me so much. Not just about tying ends, de-hooking, watching my trotters near the flathead once they were on the boat, filleting and skinning fish; you also taught me about patience, teamwork, about making little moments seem like big moments, celebrating all things (especially if no one got hurt in the process), about always finding the light and fun in everything. Your dad jokes were absolute rippers, terrible but funny, and as for your ridiculous pranks, I will cherish them forever. I can’t think about a time spent with you and all the different crews over the years without smiling to myself. Now, there is a big wave of sadness too. I always loved the way you adored Ange, your kids/grandkids, especially Nikki your little worm, and you were never afraid to show it. I loved the way you accepted and loved people without any conditions, you were loyal to family, to all your friends, always helpful and generous with your time. I loved your creative ideas and little inventions, even the ones that ended in complete disaster during their trial period (aka the stroppinator lol), there was always a good tale to be told and laugh to be had at the end of the day.
My deepest condolences to your beautiful family, what a massive loss. Thanks for everything, Strop. I hope you’re enjoying a VB up there, surrounded by family and friends, fishing with Olli from the cloud ❤️🥰🍻🎣❤️
