For years you, Jan and I worked closely together solving the many problems that came our way. Our downtime competing as to who would finish the cryptic crossword first. Well you have tested us this time John with a problem we can’t fix. No amount of logic can change the tragic outcome. We have lost a smart, witty and quirky friend. We will wear a bright shirt, but it won’t stop the tears.

Can not believe John is no more. I had known John since 2013 and he was always the M2M person to speak about. Very kind in talking and always helping out when ever I asked for help. You will be missed always. RIP Mate….

I did not know John personally, but his name is scattered throughout various pieces of work documentation that makes my job easier today. John’s family should be proud he left an important and lasting impact on people, and dare I say on Australian history, as a quiet achiever.

Dear John,

While I never had the pleasure of meeting you in person, our email exchanges that span the last seven years always left me better off understanding the myriad of intricacies encoded within the digital Australian corporate law.

Every time I thought we’d found an edge case or had a question for the too hard basket, you would be able to solve it or point us in the right direction – of course after a while we’d come to realise that ASIC had a truely intelligent, professional engineer and scientist on the other end of the line keeping Australia’s whole corporate registry in check every single day!

I’m crying at my keyboard, John – you will be greatly missed!

I’ll miss seeing your face every day, John, and your witty dry remarks as I would walk in (undoubtedly late). The last day I saw you it was “ahh, I see you’ve remembered to bring your trusty spoon with you today”. It immediately had me chuckling. I loved that you always got my dry humour. It was always a good day if I could get a good laugh from you. You’ll be in our memories always.

Thank you John for all the help over the years. Never hesitating to drop what you were doing whenever you heard “Johhnnnn, I need your help”.

And thank you for all funny conversations and all the times you sent me a story you knew would interest me. I may have never known heavy metal knitting was a thing if it weren’t for you.

You will be forever missed.

It makes me sad that I don’t get to say good morning, which you loved so much, or asking you a million questions about EDGE, I will miss the Moe jokes. And I promise I will try to use =5116, before asking.

Rest in peace John. ASIC will not be the same without your steady presence in the office, your jokes, random stories, and endless knowledge of EDGE. You will always be remembered as a legend who loved cricket and travel. While I cannot believe you are gone, I am so glad one of my last memories of you is at my going away morning tea where you made a speech. You will always be my favourite too!

Thanks to your endless wisdom, you taught me so much in such a short time – not just with work-related topics, but I had only began to tap into the unbelievable wellspring of knowledge you had. I went home each day more enlightened about some random topic than I would have ever been otherwise.

Your impeccable wit and sense of humour was right on my wavelength, getting a cheap laugh out of you was always an endorphin hit. I truly appreciated our daily chats about football – by the end, I’d like to think I finally proved to you that there’s at least a few decent Collingwood supporters out there.

You may not always be remembered, but you will never be forgotten. It always brings a smile—no, laughter—whenever I think of the ancient fact you shared about the Olympics: ‘All athletes competed naked.’ Rest peacefully, John. I know you are in a much happier and better place now.

For the past 10 years working together with you at ASIC, your dedication, expertise, and unwavering support have been truly unmatched. Your deep knowledge of EDGE and your willingness to help have always set you apart. You’ll be greatly missed, but your contributions will never be forgotten.

John you were a solid rock that I could always depend on getting help from. You were always reliable and quick to respond. I wish you safe passage to your resting place. You were a marvellous human being, you will be missed and remembered.

Always got a chuckle dropping by your team’s area to hear the banter and from your contributions to the “The Grapevine” newsletter while working in the Morwell office.

Rest in Peace John. We’ll always be grateful for your towering knowledge, kind nature and Sahara Desert-level dry wit. You’ll be dearly missed and I’ll always remember those in-depth conversations about the minutiae of World Series Cricket and Caribbean international one dayers

We only worked together for a short stint, but I will never forget the endless chats about Test cricket that we had when mostly everyone was finished for the day. I will never forget the advice you gave me when I mentioned my dreams of going to London to watch the Cricket at Lord’s, and the quippy and witty remarks you would make about opposition Cricket teams. I distinctively remember the both us alongside Andy, trying to turn the Ashes of June 2023 on the TV above your desk.

You were a wealth of knowledge, that never once made me feel like a fool for not knowing the answer to something. I always found that while you were direct with your information, you were incredibly warm and were always happy to lend a hand and advice whenever I needed it.

Rest Easy, John. You were a remarkable man who will be forever missed.

John, you made an impact on my career from even before I met you.
Pete warned me while you were away in Iceland that it was a great team with one quirky guy that was great once you got to know him. This could not have been more accurate, you were truly one of a kind but you had a lot to do with shaping me to be who I am today and I will always be grateful for that.
I have no idea where you got your patience from but you always had time for everyone, with even more time for those of us who genuinely wanted to do a great job.
I will always aspire to have the integrity you did and be respected like you.
I will forever tell people about you and your amazing smile and sense of humor, alongside you absolute treasure trove of knowledge.

You will be missed every single day and I will wait for another awkward hug that you clearly don’t want but I will give you anyway.

I have known john for 30 years and I have very fond memories of him, he always was very helpful to my
staff at MMD and CMMD and went out of his way to
accommodate and be extremely helpful to us.

I was saddened to hear of John’s recent passing from an upset former work colleague. John’s humor was beyond dry, it was parched! A decent and funny bloke, a knowledgeable public servant and an exceptional professional. RIP John. Respect. Condolences to your family, friends and workmates at ASIC.
