The passing of Denis, a wonderful husband, father, grand pop and terrific friend to many, is a great loss to us all.

Our Saturday morning training sessions will not be the same and our coffee after training was always a highlight, filled with Denis’s humour and funny stories.

We would like to share with you what Denis meant to us with the following poem:

When we reflect about Australia,
And the things for which we care.
Our thoughts go straight to Denis,
And this we’d like to share.

A better man you could not meet.
We’ll give it to you straight.
The very sort of character,
You’d proudly call a mate.

He’s everything we should be.
Honest, true and tough.
The guy who always backs you up,
If things start getting rough.

A master of bush logic.
A man that thinks things through.
Who views us all as equal,
With a heart that’s just true blue.

And his Aussie sense of humour,
Can always see the light.
A talk, a beer and a laugh,
Is better than a fight.

But if called upon to stand his ground,
We’d back him in for sure.
To take what ever’s thrown his way,
And throw back even more.

Both loved and respected,
By those who know him the best.
A rare combination,
And perhaps life’s greatest test.

We need more just like Denis,
Though we fear it’s not the case.
