  12. I am sorry to hear of the passing of David Birks.
He was a great surgeon, cool in an emergency, a calm unflappable presence. I will always remember his collegiate nature and unfailing good humour, dignified in the most awkward of circumstances. I am lucky to have worked alongside him. He was a warm, compassionate and good human being. My warmest condolences to Kay and the Birks clan. xx

  17. A dignified and kind man, plus a great surgeon and will be missed. This combination doesn’t happen very often in our nursing lifetime and I have great memories of my time at Latrobe Valley Hospital, Moe working with him.
Also worked with his father, Gordon in my very early nursing days, who had a very similar outlook on life
