  7. Colin, I am thankful for you and the happiness you brought to Nan. I remember the day you married Nan, Nan was so happy.

Both my Grandfathers passed away when I was a teen and so when you came along, you happily loved on us all.

I remember chats about your tramping adventures in New Zealand, lots of woodwork chats with Johno, showing us your bowls, salt & pepper shakers, pens and many other things you crafted with your wood working skills. You loved your tomato plants and vege garden and would be sure that we took something after we visited.

You loved coming to church with Nan, and yelling something out when I was preaching that would give everyone a laugh. Or the other extreme, I would look over to see you taking a nap. I never minded either way. You loved a good chat after church with your mates John & Jim (who knows what you are all up to in heaven, mischief no doubt).

Thanks for the love you’ve shown to our family over the years, Johno, my boys and I are thankful that we got to have you in our lives. And so thankful for the friend and companion you were to Nan.

Now no longer in pain and free to do the things you love in heaven.

Love Meagan, Johno, Samuel, Charlie & Harry Bennetts xoxo

  13. My deepest sympathy to Colin’s family at the passing of a wonderful man. All my love to my beautiful Nan and my family who loved Colin so deeply.
He was a cherished member of our family. I remember how much he loved and cared for Nan right up until he couldn’t anymore.
The Stanley family remember the duelling TVs when we would come to visit. Nan and Colin both too stubborn to turn theirs down. We remember how much Colin loved his woodworking, his garden, his books on the war and trains. Naomi particularly remembers a wood turned toothpick canon that he made our family. Nathan remembers you (somewhat reluctantly and probably after some convincing from Nan), helping him upcycle an old hutch into a TV cabinet. Your skill and knowledge was so helpful. And of course the three legged stool still has pride of place in our home. After being broken from being stood on and Colin repairing it for us, it now holds a beautiful Peace Lily in the corner of the sunniest position in our home.
Colin would always make our family feel welcome in his and Nan’s home and if it got too much, he would retreat into his lounge room. Even after retreating, he would be happy to welcome one or 2 of us to come and chat to him though. He loved to tell us all about his travels and adventures with Nan.

Nathan and I fondly remember when Nan and Colin came to visit us for a week while we we’re living in Manchester, England. We had to work during the day and we would come home to stories of Colin and Nan’s travels of the day. Sometimes Colin would go on his own but he had made it his goal to travel the trains and trams to the end of the line in every direction. And even after travelling to the most boring places at the end of the line, he would have a funny or interesting story to tell us.

We will miss you Colin, your love for Nan and your love and interest in us. We know you are now with the Lord and we are happy that you are no longer in pain or suffering. I imagine you doing some woodwork alongside Jesus. Two carpenters creating beautiful things from wood.

    Natalie Stanley.
